I’m delighted to announce that Ham, Cheese & Pickles: The School Day Dilemmas is now available.
This is the second book in the Ham, Cheese & Pickles series and follows the trio as they return to school after half term for another collection of short adventures and mysteries.
Across ten chapters, Ham, Cheese, and Pickles find themselves dealing with playground rumours, missing items, strange occurrences, and the sort of problems that only seem to happen when you’re a child. Whilst the mysteries might not be world-ending, they feel important to the trio, and that’s often what childhood is all about.
One of the ideas behind the Ham, Cheese & Pickles series was creating stories that could be enjoyed in short bursts. The name itself is a play on a sandwich, and I wanted the stories to reflect that. Something you could read in the time it takes to make and eat a sandwich, a quick story before bed, or a chapter that can be enjoyed without needing to remember dozens of characters and plotlines.
Rather than writing one long adventure, I chose to write collections of connected stories featuring the same characters and setting. Readers can follow the friendships and personalities of Ham, Cheese, and Pickles whilst enjoying a different mystery in each chapter.
The series is heavily inspired by the sort of childhood adventures many people remember growing up in Britain before smartphones became part of everyday life. Treehouses, rumours, shortcuts, school days, and the small mysteries that seemed enormous at the time all play a part in shaping the world of the books.
